Sentel is Sylwia Kopys and Bartek Baran, a duo of electronic alchemists based in the medieval city of Krakow, Poland. Together they craft bubbling beats and technicolour melodies tip-toeing the lines between avant-dance styles and landing somewhere in the middle of the post-dubstep genre that is now simply known as bass.
Sentel’s pumping 4/4 rhythms have somehow retained the swing in their step, their synths stretch and bounce, and low voices haunt the soundtrack of “Chapel 20” and “Widow”. We have no idea what to call it, but if it helps, their sound has been dubbed a distant cousin of Ikonika and Untold.
UK underground culture has been a palpable influence on the duo, but what about the otherworldly Chapel 20 / Widow? Anything from Kompakt records to Bristol’s Punch Drunk records was inspiration, not to mention Krakow’s legendary nightlife, video games, and an unabashed love for black metal.
